U.S. men's national team midfielder Malik Tillman has sustained an ankle injury, PSV revealed Saturday. Manager Peter Bosz confirmed that Tillman could be out for a "long time" but the severity is yet to be determined.
The injury reportedly happened after he scored in PSV's Dutch Cup match midweek against Excelsior, where he bagged a 73rd minute goal en-route to a thrilling extra-time comeback victory. He hit the ground shortly after scoring, but remained on the pitch through all 120 minutes of the contest including extra-time.
"We don't know exactly yet, that will be investigated in the coming period. He sustained an ankle injury when he scored against Excelsior," Bosz told ESPN. "Malik did play [Tuesday's] match, but after that he had so much trouble… it doesn't look good. He's already had an MRI scan and is still being examined. Will we lose him for a long time? Yes."
