You can’t hate April Fools day.
It’s the one day of the year when we can openly make stuff up and get away with it (kind of). And we’ve had some absolute corkers sent to us by our network of sites throughout the day.
In the past we’ve been taken in by stories like plans to increase the size of goals, League Two players signing for some of Europe’s biggest clubs and even plans to remove referees from the game altogether.
This year has been no different. We’ve had stories about artificial footballers, Rangers and Celtic putting aside their differences, Gibralter taking their pick of English players in the Premier League and even Arsenal making the most unlikely signing in the history of unlikely signings.
So sit back and enjoy our best April Fools stories of the day. And remember, none of them are real unless your really want them to be…

Viva Football Calcio
Since Jamie Carragher retired we’ve all been enjoying his footballing wisdom and weak banter with Gary Neville on Monday Night Football.
But according to Viva Football Calcio, the Liverpool legend is set to come out of retired to play for non-League outfit Southport.

Celts Are Here
Celts are Here looked to further stoke a non-existent relationship between Rangers and Celtic by, erm, dreaming up a story that’s intended to ‘rebuild’ a relationship between the two clubs.
A Lee McCulloch testimonial, with all funds raised from the event to go to help the immediate running costs of the Championship outfit, would technically mean Celtic are funding Rangers’ rise back to the top. Kind of.

It’s fair to say that a bust up between Diego Costa and Jose Mourinho at Chelsea is a thing that could actually happen.
So, when we read Chelsea Daft’s story about a potential disagreement between the Spaniard and the Blues boss, we didn’t sense any foul play. That was until we got to the final couple of lines of the story.

Video Celts
Video Celts ran a story that suggested Newcastle and Celtic were to play each other in money-spinning pre-season friendly over in Boston.
A fairly believable story on the surface, but then when you read the quotes further down you begin to wonder what’s going on.
However, that didn’t stop Newcastle blog The Mag to run the story as if it was fact soon afterwards…
Full. Of. Win.
Leeds All Over
Another one that’s more believable than it is an April Fools. Leeds All Over went down the road of fuelling the belief that Massimo Cellino loves sacking his managers.
It’s a well known fact that he does, but the fact he’d even consider getting rid of Neil Redfearn at the end of the season would be crossing the line.

You cruel, cruel people. North London Is Red almost gave their fellow Gooners a heart attack this morning when they made out that Matheiu Flamini had put pen-to-paper on a new five-year contract at the Emirates.

Another Arsenal blog, but this one’s gone the other way and gone with a story that was immediately suspicious.
Harry Kane admitting he wants to sign for Arsenal? Pfft! Despite clearly being a wind up, it’s still pretty funny. And one of the comments at the end of the story even suggests there are some fans actually believed it. Well one fan, anyway.

West Ham fans were personally offended by Roy Hodgson’s decision to leave Mark Noble and Aaron Cresswell out of his recent England squad.
But that’s ok, because Knees Up Mother Brown reassured them that their talents won’t be ignored by the international stage, because Gibralter are considering giving them a call up.
Obviously it’s not true, but we could just imagine West Ham fans’ faces when waking up to this news this morning…

Football Express News played on the ongoing pain of Manchester United fans by revealing the ‘shocking’ plans to reinstate Sir Alex Ferguson as Old Trafford boss next summer.
Arguably the cruelest one of them all, yet not slightly unbelievable. We reckon Sir Alex would love to step in and show the rest how it’s done.

Ahh, England. The land where the beautiful game was invented and then taken to the next level by everyone else in the world – I mean, come on, Romania are 14th in FIFA’s latest rankings whilst we are embarrassingly lodged in 17th place.
This rather amusing piece from FutnSoccer played upon our delusion around the national team and the Premier League as the world’s best league despite our obvious failings in the Champions League this campaign.

Football rivalries, each team and fanbase thinks their rivalry and hatred towards another side is the biggest and fiercest in football – I mean, seriously, how do you even judge that?
Sick and tired of all the tension forced due to geographical location, Salut Sunderland opted to extend an olive branch to their Premier League rivals Newcastle United.
The Stadium of Light will welcome some of the Geordies finest talent from Ashley Cole’s ex-Cheryl (sod, Googling her name to found out her new elaborate surname) to the loveable duo of Ant and Dec.
