The attacking midfielder has been out with an ankle injury since early November but is on schedule to return to action in the next week, reports. That could see him make his long-awaited return in the fourth round tie against the reigning English champions.

Maddison has been a key player for Spurs since joining from Leicester in the summer transfer window. He scored three goals and registered five assists in his 11 Premier League appearances before he was ruled out for almost three months.

Maddison is not the only boost for Australian coach Postecoglou. Israel international winger Manor Solomon is also hoping to be back in the squad for the headline clash against City. The 24-year-old, signed from Shakhtar ahead of this season, made five league appearances before suffering an injury in September.
